Synonymous with commitment, affordability and superiority, Brainware’s 29-year standing in the education sector has enriched its history with invaluable experience. Weaponising this experience, Brainware University now boasts a coveted spot amongst the top private universities of Kolkata, India. And, at the heart of the institution lies a singular motto enforced by the chancellor of the university, Phalguni Mookhopadhayay; “From the very first day, our focus was to provide quality education at affordable course fees. We’re essentially for the middle class, economically speaking, because we believe if education is confined to only the affluent, then we are missing out on a very large number of intellectuals from the middle-income group of a nation.”
Adopting an uncompromising nature to low tuition fees, therefore, means regulating costs. And this is where the ripple effect of minimising wastage without underestimating text-book theories expands for maximum effect.
“It is possible for institutions to minimise costs, and we have been doing it since the university’s inception. Take a university setup for instance. Consumption here can be divided into internal and external. As far as internal consumption is concerned, we have made it a rule to reuse one-sided used paper. Using a fresh piece of paper when the other side of it is blank is prohibited,” Mookhopadhayay explains.
“And, then, there is the issue of food. We have seen that via hostels and cafeterias, 180kg of cooked food is wasted every day. We have managed to curb that figure to 140-150kg but the challenge persists, and that is because, in a large-scale institution, small things multiply and become a habit,” outlines the chancellor.
Moreover, recognising the worth of resources like electricity and maximising usage of assets like the university campus with all its classrooms combine to price tuition fees at a low range.
What Brainware University has managed to structurally establish is spectacular; state-of-the-art infrastructure in modern teaching equipment, a diverse range of laboratories, including multimedia and pharmaceutical, and a brimming library. But the differentiating factor lies in its Career and Employability Development Centre.
“Skill development is a national target as far as India is concerned. Brainware partakes in initiatives targeting this exact agenda directly,” the chancellor shares.
Keeping such core values in mind, the centre runs employability development programmes, all dedicated to extend training, services, resources, tools, skills, expertise and experience to students to ensure global opportunities. Other features like Pre-Placement and Placement Cells enable graduates to develop skills in communication and presentation, interact directly with industry veterans and engage in industrial training. The whole idea is to treat every student like a scholar and deploy them as industry-ready.
Other than that, Brainware also partakes in social initiatives such as campaigns on health awareness, road safety and HIV/AIDS awareness seminars, all dedicated to making the world around them a better place.
Brainware University makes a difference. Education, cost or mission, Brainware believes in brand value. And it is that commitment to this brand value that will continue to catapult them to a premier position in education.
