Rape case: HC directs ATN Bangla’s ex-programme producer Aslam Shikder to surrender
The High Court today directed Aslam Shikder, a former programme producer of private TV channel ATN Bangla, to surrender before the Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 of Dhaka in a case filed for raping a dance artist in 2018.
The same tribunal acquitted Aslam Shikder in the case on October 20 last year, Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi told The Daily Star.
The HC also called for records of the case from the tribunal and accepted the appeal against the acquittal verdict for hearing.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman came up with the order after a primary hearing of the appeal filed by the state challenging the verdict delivered by Nari O Shishu Nirjaton Daman Tribunal-7 of Dhaka acquitting Aslam Shikder.
DAG Sarwar said there are specific allegations against Aslam Shikder of raping the dance artist and there are sufficient documents in support of the allegations and charges were framed against him by the trial court in the case.
The victim filed a case with Hatirjheel Police Station on September 13, 2018 against Aslam Shikder on charge of raping her. The police arrested Aslam Shikder on the same day and sent him to jail the following day.
Following a bail petition filed by Aslam, the HC on June 18, 2018 granted him bail in the case, which the Appellate Division of Supreme Court stayed on June 25 the same year.
