Petition seeks HC directive to reopen educational institutions immediately
A writ petition was filed with the High Court today seeking its directive on the government to reopen all educational institutions immediately, considering the present situation of the country.
Abdul Kaiyum Sarkar, principal of Bhawal Mirzapur Public School & College, submitted the petition as a public interest litigation to the HC, requesting to order the authorities concerned of the government to reopen academic institutions immediately following health guidelines.
In the petition, he also prayed to the HC to issue a rule asking the authorities to explain why the notification of January 15 for extending closure of the institutions till January 30 should not be declared illegal, petitioner's lawyer Faruque Alamgir Chowdhury told The Daily Star.
He said the HC may hear the petition any day next week.
Citing the petition, lawyer Faruque said educational institutions have remained closed since March last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, hampering education.
The shutdown of the institutions was extended 12 times so far and therefore, lakhs of students have been facing adverse impact.
