HC bench withdraws bail of a convicted JMB activist
A High Court bench today withdrew its bail order to banned Islamist outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) activist Md Redwanul Huq alias Redwan in two separate bomb blast cases in which he was sentenced to life in 2005.
The bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo also rejected the petition filed by Redwanul.
The HC bench came up with the order after Deputy Attorney General Md Aminul Islam prayed to the bench to withdraw its order of bail saying that Redwanul is a JMB activist and cannot be granted bail.
The bench had granted him bail on January 14 following the bail petitions filed by him.
DAG Aminul told The Daily Star last night that the Special Tribunal-1 of Feni on December 5, 2005 sentenced Redwanul Huq to life imprisonment in the cases filed for bombing the Feni court and district office premises on August 17 the same year when a series of bomb blasts took place across the country.
The HC bench granted bail to Rezwanul on January 14 as his lawyer Hasina Jahan Hazari suppressed the fact that he was a JMB activist.
The defence lawyer had told the HC bench that Redwanul was a poor man suffering in jail for 15 years and he did not seek bail from the HC earlier in the cases, DAG Aminul said.
The DAG said after examining the documents he noticed that Redwanul is a militant and JMB activist, and then placed the matter before the HC bench on January 17 for recalling its order of bail.
He also prayed to the court to take action against Rezwanul's lawyer Hasina Jahan Hazari for suppressing the information during hearings of the bail petitions.
Hazari could not be reached for comments on this issue.
