Cases against Sayeed Khokon: one withdrawn, another dismissed
A case filed against former mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation Sayeed Khokon -- for making "defamatory remarks" against incumbent Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh -- was withdrawn while another case filed over the same allegation was dismissed today.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Baki Billah passed the orders after the complainants submitted separate petitions praying for dismissal of a case and seeking permission for withdrawal of the other.
The court withdrew the case filed by Md Sarwar Alam while dismissed the other filed by Md Kazi Anisur Rahman.

They filed the cases against the former mayor with the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury on January 11.
After hearings of the cases, the magistrate took them into cognisance and recorded statements of the complainants and set today for passing orders on the cases.
The next day, Taposh asked the lawyers to withdraw the cases against Sayeed Khokon.
The complainants alleged that Khokon made defamatory comments against Taposh at a human chain in front of the High Court premises on January 9.
