Land disputes leave two dead in Sunamganj

Two people were killed over land disputes in Dirai and Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj district yesterday and on Tuesday night.

In Chhatak upazila, Nurul Amin, 30, son of Riat Ali of the village, was stabbed to death by one Borhan Uddin and his men at Kaitkona village on Tuesday night.

Locals said there had been a dispute between Nurul Amin and Borhan Uddin of the village over a piece of land for long.

At around 8:00pm, Borhan and his men swooped on Amin while he was sitting at a tea stall. They stabbed him and left the scene. Amin died on the spot.

Being informed, police went to the spot and sent the body to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Officer-in-Charge Shahjalal Munshi of Chhatak Police Station said they arrested three people for their alleged involvement in the killing of Amin.

In Dirai upazila, land dispute left a man dead at Soralitupa village yesterday. The dead was identified as Jalal Uddin, 35, son of Yunus Ali of the village.

Locals said Jalal and his neighbour Mahbub Uddin had an altercation over a disputed land at noon. After half an hour, a gang led by Mahbub swooped on Jalal, stabbed him and left the scene.

Critically injured Jalal was rushed to Dirai Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.

Mahbub and his supporters had gone into hiding soon after the incident. A case was filed with Dirai Police Station, accusing Mahbub and four others.

Contacted, office-in-charge Bayes Alam of the police station said law enforcers have already launched a drive to nab the accused.
