BJP lawmaker among 6 killed in India Maoists attack
A BJP lawmaker and five security personnel were killed today when Maoists ambushed their vehicle in Dantewada area of central Indian state of Chhattisgarh.
The Maoists blew up an improvised explosive device on a road when the BJP's Dantewada legislator Bhima Mandavi's convoy was passing through the district for the upcoming parliamentary polls campaign, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
The BJP legislator and five security personnel were killed in the attack, said Dantewada district police chief Abhishek Pallav. The personal security guard of Mandavi was among the security men killed in the incident, he added.
Chhattisgarh police chief D M Awasthi earlier confirmed the death of five security personnel.
The Maoist attack came just two days before the first phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections.
Voting in Chhattisgarh will be held in three separate phases starting on April 11.
