Dengue: Over half of deaths this year logged in Dhaka
At least 110 dengue patients died in the country till yesterday, more than half of which are in Dhaka.
The Directorate General of Health Services said of the deceased, 65 are in Dhaka. Twenty-two people died in Cox's Bazar, which is the highest among districts outside Dhaka.
Besides, 12 died in Chattogram, five in Barishal, two each in Khulna and Mymensingh and one each in Narsingdi and Feni.
At least 409 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country in last 24 hours as of yesterday morning, taking the total number of cases to 29,107.
At least 25,790 patients have already been released from hospitals and 7,133 of them are from outside Dhaka.
Some 3,207 dengue patients are still undergoing treatment and 1,025 of them are from outside Dhaka.
Experts urged the authorities concerned to conduct extensive drives, identifying Aedes mosquito-prone areas immediately.
In Rajshahi, the number of dengue patients has been increasing at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) since September 14
At present, 35 patients are undergoing treatment there. Of them, 19 are workers of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Pabna.
Muktadirul Islam Sifat, an intern doctor at RMCH, said the number of dengue patients has increased in the last few days.
Even if the number of patients goes up, adequate treatment and medicine are being provided to them, he said.
The Rajshahi City Corporation has started a special cleanliness drive in the city from Wednesday to prevent dengue.
