Dengue fever: Cases cross 15,000 mark, 234 hospitalised in a day
Dengue cases crossed the 15,000-mark for the first time this year today and 234 patients were hospitalised in 24 hours till 8:00am today, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among the new cases, only 52 are from outside Dhaka and a total 4,709 were diagnosed during the running month out of total 15,065 infected. Of the total infected, 1653 are from outside Dhaka.
At least 7698 were diagnosed in August, 2286 patients were hospitalised in July, 272 in June while 43 were infected in May, according to the DGHS.
According to the DGHS, 57 people have died of dengue infection in the country this year and all of them died between July, August and September.
Twelve people died in July, 34 died in August and 11 in September so far.
Among the deaths, 53 died in Dhaka division, two in Chattogram division, one each in Rajshahi and Khulna division.
Though most of the patients who were hospitalised have so far been released, 1247 are still undergoing treatment at hospitals in Dhaka, and 200 outside the capital, the DGHS data shows.
