Delhi announces closure of private offices as Covid infections rise
The daily count of Covid-19 infections in Delhi rose to 21,259 taking the total caseload to nearly 16 lakh as authorities ordered closure of all private offices, except those in exempted categories in view of the sharp uptick in cases.
According to the Delhi health department's bulletin this afternoon, the 21,259 figure today marks a rise from 19,166 people who tested positive for the virus yesterday, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
The case positivity rate has risen to 25.65 percent.
The national capital also reported 23 Covid-19 fatalities in the last 24 hours.
The private offices, which were till now operating with 50 percent workforce, have been asked by Delhi Disaster Management Authority, which met today to review the Covid-19 situation, to switch over to work from home.
Government offices in the city are currently working with 50 percent attendance.
An order issued by Delhi Disaster Management Authority also directed for the shutdown of restaurants and bars in the city. However, restaurants have been allowed home delivery and take away food items.
Two days ago, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said there was no plan to impose a lockdown as of now in the city and that there will be no need for it if people wear masks.
