18 die in Covid units of Khulna hospitals in 24 hours

Eighteen patients died while undergoing treatment at the Covid units of five Khulna hospitals in 24 hours till 8am today.

The hospitals are Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), Gazi Medical College Hospital, Shahid Sheikh Abu Naser Specialized Hospital, Khulna General Hospital and Khulna City Medical College Hospital.

Dr Suhas Ranjan Halder, resident medical officer and spokesperson of the Covid unit at KMCH, said that eight patients died at the unit in 24 hours till this morning. Of them, four were Covid-19 positive while the others had symptoms.

A total of 109 people were undergoing treatment at the hospital's Covid unit till 8am today. Of them, 42 are undergoing treatment in red zone, 34 in yellow zone, 13 are in high-dependency unit (HDU) and 20 at intensive care unit (ICU), he said.

Gazi Medical College Hospital owner Gazi Mizanur Rahman said, four patients died at the hospital's Covid unit during 24 hours, till 8am today. Ninety-one patients were admitted at the Covid unit of the hospital till this time.

Three patients died at the Covid unit of Shahid Sheikh Abu Naser Specialized Hospital, said Dr Prakash Chandra Debnath, spokesperson of the unit. Thirty-six patients were taking treatment at the unit till this morning.

In Khulna General Hospital, one Covid-19 patient died during this time, said Dr Kazi Abu Rashed, spokesperson of the hospital's Covid unit. Thirty-three patients were taking treatment at the unit till this morning.

In the Covid unit of Khulna City Medical College Hospital, two patients died in 24 hours till this morning. A total of 69 patients were being treated at the unit till this time.
