Hasina urges Greece to invest in Bangladesh
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday urged Greece to invest in Bangladesh by availing its congenial investment facilities.
She also requested her Greek counterpart for taking more steps to ensure welfare of Bangladeshi expatriates who are there.
Hasina made the request during a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Antinios Samaras on the sidelines of the 10th ASEM summit in the Bangladeshi Meeting Room of Milan Congressi.
Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque briefed reporters after the meeting.
Hasina also underscored the importance of enhancing trade and commerce with Greece for mutual benefits of both countries.
She recalled with gratitude that Greece was one of the European countries that had recognised independent Bangladesh in 1972.
Highlighting various success stories of her government, Hasina said Bangladesh had been able to maintain over 6 percent growth for the last couple of years.
At the meeting, the Greek premier congratulated Hasina for being elected for the third time as the prime minister in the January 5 poll. Bangladesh is marching ahead under the dynamic leadership of Hasina, he added.
Antinios also said he felt proud for having talks with the daughter of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and highly appreciated her government for its role against terrorism and militancy.
And, on that note the two prime ministers agreed to work along with the international community against terrorism and militancy.
The two premiers also exchanged invitations for visiting their countries.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Principal Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder and Bangladesh Ambassador to Italy M Shahdat Hossain were also present at the meeting. Deputy Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Bijan Lal Dev was present during the briefing.
