Jose Mourinho has predicted a stunning clash between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the final of the World Cup 2018 -- the two greats of this generation, but he left the final outcome of the game to the imagination of the football fans.
RT has exclusively revealed the Special One’s predictions for the whole of the tournament – from the group stage winners right through the knockout stages – as part of their exclusive Match Mourinho playoff competition.
According to the special one, his national side Portugal, led by Ronaldo, will be able to deny five times world champions Brazil and book their place in the final of the World Cup for the first time ever.
Argentina will face the defending champions Germany in the semi-final and will overcome them to play the final against Portugal, as per the Manchester United boss. He also claimed that Brazil would secure thirdplace in the tournament by taking revenge against the Germans who handed them a humiliating 7-1 defeat last time around.
Coming to the predictions for the final, the former Real Madrid manager claimed that the final of the World Cup 2018 would come down to the last moment penalties taken by Ronaldo and Messi in a tie-breaker. But he could not decide the outcome, claiming it was very tough and left the rest to the fans’ imagination.
“It’s not just normal… I can’t do it! I can’t do it!” Mourinho said as he agonized over who to pick as the World Cup winners.
“Extra-time, penalties, 11 players, they take a penalty… there is only one more penalty, and that last penalty, one takes Messi, another one takes Ronaldo… and I leave to your imagination,” the Portuguese manager said.
Surely, with Mourinhos predictions this World Cup would be a great one for the fans to enjoy. Watch the predictions from Mourinho below.
