FIFA says Bangladesh has ‘some of football's most passionate fans’

The World Cup fever sweeps through Bangladesh every four year as building rooftops boast fans’ favourite team’s flag and football dominate conversations amongst the masses.

Bangladesh have never played in a football World Cup. It is unlikely to participate in one in the near future. But the craze around the showpiece event did not stop the Bangladeshi fans from celebrating the World Cup like usual. So much is the craze that often Bangladesh fans show more passion than fans of other football playing nations. A video had been posted by Lionel Messi earlier during the World Cup, which showed footage of Bangladeshi fans cheering for Argentina and Messi. This time it is FIFA who acknowledged that passion which exists among fans in Bangladesh.

“Despite the fact that its team has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup, World Cup fever has taken over Bangladesh - a country with some of football's most passionate fans,” FIFA posted on its official World Cup Facebook page along with pictures of graffitis and fans celebrating the World Cup or staying up late to watch matches in droves on big screens.

Bangladesh fans posted on the comment section of FIFA’s post, expressing joy and happiness while fans from abroad also cheered for Bangladesh.

One Brazilian fan wrote: “I'm amazed how Bangladesh support Brazil.Thank you all. Bangladesh got a Brazilian Fan. Hope see you in Qatar 2022 or at least see Bangladesh vs Brazil playing a friendly.”
