Erfan Salim walks out of Dhaka Central Jail

Erfan Salim, son of Awami League lawmaker Haji Md Salim, walked out of jail after around six months.

He left Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj around 4:50pm, Mohiuddin Mahmud Belal, personal secretary of Haji Md Salim, told The Daily Star.

Subhash Kumar Ghosh, senior jail super of Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj said they released Erfan Salim after completing formalities upon receiving the court's order.

The development came after Supreme Court on April 25 upheld a High Court verdict that granted bail to Erfan Salim in a case filed over attacking a navy officer in October last year.

There was no legal bar for Erfan Salim to get released from Dhaka Central Jail following the apex court order, Erfan's lawyer Sayed Ahmed Raza said after the verdict.

Following a bail petition filed by Erfan, the HC on March 18 granted him permanent bail in the case.

Erfan was arrested after a case was filed against him on charges of attacking Lt Wasif Ahmed Khan of Bangladesh Navy in the capital's Dhanmondi area on October 25 last year.
