Authorities of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today urged all not to throw garbage and wastages haphazardly in an attempt to keep the city clean and livable.

"I urge all of you not to throw wastages indiscriminately… You please keep your society clean," the DNCC Administrator Mohammad Azaz said while inaugurating the construction work of road, drain, and footpath at Polashnagar area under Mirpur section-11 in Dhaka this afternoon.

The DNCC will construct 11km road, 35km drain and 13km footpath at ward number 2, 3, 4, and 5 under DNCC.

Mentioning differences between the cities of the developed world and the cities of Bangladesh, he said there is no garbage on the roads of the developed countries but in Bangladesh the picture is totally opposite as one can find huge amounts of waste on the roads.

The DNCC administrator said that the conservancy staffs of the city corporation used to work from night to 8:00am daily to keep the city clean.

"They [conservancy staffs] used to collect eight lakh tones of garbage from both the city corporations everyday. The city dwellers should leave their wastages to a particular place so that the corporations staffs could collect it easily," he said.

Calling upon the house owners of the city to create rooftop gardens, the DNCC administrator said that he would consider providing incentives from the city corporation for the creation of such gardens.

He urged the affluent people of the city to take initiative to provide pure drinking water to the poor and marginal people who have no capacity to buy mineral water.

He requested them to keep some water at suitable places so that the birds, dogs, cats, and animals can take a sip of water during this heat wave.

Regarding the plying of rickshaws on the city streets, he called upon all to provide information of illegal rickshaw garage saying that the corporation would not allow the battery run auto-rickshaws to ply on the main roads.

In this connection, he said the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has been working on a particular design of auto-rickshaw and after completion of it the auto-rickshaw drivers will be given licence after imparting proper training.

DNCC Chief Executive Officer Abu Sayeed Md Kamruzzaman, its Chief Engineer Brig Gen Md Moin Uddin, Additional Chief Engineer Mohammad Arifur Rahman, Zonal Executive Officer Md Ziaur Rahman, Superintending Engineer Khandkar Mahbub Alam, Convener of Dhaka City North BNP Aminul Haque, and President of Polashnagar House Owners Association Md Anisur Rahman, were present, among others.
