Sylhet landslide kills four of a family

Four members of a joint family, including a child, were dead in a landslide in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet.

The incident took place in East Satjani village of Chiknagul union of the upazila around 8:30am today, reports our local correspondent.

The deceased were identified as Jabed Ahmed (35), his wife Sumi Begum (30), Jabed's niece Safi Ahmed (5), and Shamim Ara Begum (48). Meanwhile, five more members of the family were injured in the landslide.

Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, chairman of Chiknagul union, said, "Four were killed when a hill collapsed on their house due to heavy rains."

Officer-in-Charge of Jaintapur Police Station, Golam Dastagir Ghazi, said, "Police rushed to the spot and recovered four bodies. The bodies have been sent to the morgue of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Five injured people were also rescued and sent to the hospital for treatment."
