At least nine people died due to flood, lightning and electrocution in Sylhet division.

Nine deaths have been reported since the beginning of flood in Sylhet division on June 15, Divisional Health Director, Dr Himangshu Lal Roy, said.

Besides, at least eight people have been admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital with various injuries due to the flood.

Among the deceased was a youth named Titu Chowdhury who died in Rainagar area of Sylhet city on Saturday (June 18, 2022). Lightning killed two people in Companyganj upazila. In Sylhet's Bishwanath upazila, a one-year-old drowned after falling from a boat.

In Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj, five people were swept away by flood waters, Dr Himanshu Lal Roy told The Daily Star this morning, quoting Chhatak MP Muhibur Rahman Manik. Two more people were dead after lightning struck them, in the same district.

Dr Himanshu told The Daily Star, "We have no contact with the health officials of any upazila except one in Sunamganj recently. We don't have any news in most areas. There are fears of more casualties being reported over time."
