‘Proud to be representing Bangladesh at Cannes’
"Mujib: The Making of a Nation", the biopic of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman directed by Shyam Benegal, is currently in post-production. A teaser of the film was unveiled in the Marché du Film Commercial Branch at the Indian pavilion of the 75th Cannes Film Festival on May 19. Ecstatic about this experience, Nusrat Imrose Tisha, one of the stars of the Bangladesh-India joint production, shares her thoughts with The Daily Star, on a phone call from France.
You are at the 75th Cannes Film Festival to promote your film, 'Mujib: The Making of a Nation'. How do you feel?
Needless to say, I am elated to be here at Cannes. It is a matter of great pride to be representing Bangladesh on such a prestigious platform. Without a doubt, this will go down as one of the most memorable experiences of my life. I hope Bangladeshi films continue to make strides globally. I am confident that we will be able to reach audiences in different corners of the world with "Mujib: The Making of a Nation".
Your daughter, Ilham Nusrat Farooki, accompanied you to Cannes.
My biggest priority right now is Ilham, so being able to travel with her has been a wonderful experience. I am happy beyond words to have her by my side during such an important chapter of my career. I am grateful to have my family here with me.
How did you approach your role in 'Mujib: The Making of a Nation'?
Playing an important role like Fazilatunnesa Mujib, the wife of Bangabandhu, in this historic film was truly the gift of a lifetime. I never took this opportunity for granted, even for a second. The team has worked really hard on this film, and we hope that it is loved by the audience.
Moving forward, what are you looking forward to the most, in terms of your career?
I have had a great professional journey so far, and I just want to continue doing good work, with the love and support of my fans.
