Prabir Mitra’s quiet life inside his home

Renowned actor Prabir Mitra has worked in over 400 films in his career, over the past decades. The 80-year-old veteran artiste now spends most of his time at home.

He has been absent from showbiz for quite some time due to age related complications. Earlier on, his condition deteriorated a little but he is doing well now. His knee pain has also reduced and the actor is also able to walk a bit.

The Daily Star contacted the veteran artiste's daughter-in-law Sonia Yeasmin to get to know about the National Award-winning actor's health.

"Baba is a lot better now. I am really thankful to God that his health condition has improved. Please do pray for him," mentions Sonia.

Prabir Mitra has been keeping away from the screen due to health issues for a while now. "He tested positive for Covid-19 last year which made us all very worried," shares his daughter-in-law. "By the grace of the Almighty and the love from his fans, he is doing better now."

The actor is currently staying at his residence in Dhaka and only steps out for medical checkups. "He performs his daily chores, reads books and magazines, and watches TV sometimes. Home is his world now," she adds. 

"Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, nobody comes to our house but hopefully if the condition gets better people from the industry will come to see him," mentions Sonia.

Nowadays, Prabir Mitra speaks of his last wishes and regrets often.

"He was not awarded a plot from the government. However, many others were. This thought keeps him disappointed," shares Sonia.

Prabir Mitra has been suffering from arthritis for quite a long time and has been unable to walk without support. His condition has slightly improved now.

The veteran artiste became a household name with his debut film "Jolchobi" which was released in 1969.

The renowned actor has a series of timeless movies added to his name including "Titash Ekti Nadir Naam", "Nawab Sirajuddaula", "Dui Poishar Alta", "Noyoner Alo" , "Jonme Theke Jolchi", among others.

He won his first National Award in the Best Supporting Actor category, for his performance in the film Boro Bhalo Lok Chhilo, in 1982.

Prabir Mitra has also received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Bangladesh National Film Awards in 2018.
