Ekushey February stands as a solemn reminder of the immense sacrifices made by the language martyrs who fought to preserve the Bengali language. This day not only commemorates their bravery but also celebrates the cultural and linguistic richness of Bangladesh. Television channels nationwide have planned a series of special programs, honouring the language martyrs and reflecting on the importance of our mother tongue.

ATN Bangla

In observance of International Mother Language Day 2025, ATN Bangla will air a special documentary titled "Shei Diner Kotha" on February 21st at 3:10pm. Directed by KM Mahmud Hasan, the documentary will feature Ahmad Rafiq, a prominent language movement activist, who will share his firsthand experiences of the turbulent events of February 21 in 1952. At the time, Rafiq was a third-year student at Dhaka Medical College and witnessed key moments of the movement.

The documentary will also include rare photographs, archival footage, and newspaper reports from that period, providing an insightful look at the pivotal events of the 1952 Language Movement.

Boishakhi TV

Boishakhi TV has planned a special lineup of programmes to honour the day. At 8:20am, singer Dinat Jahan Munni will perform iconic songs such as "Bhashar Jonno Jara Diye Geche Pran" and "Februaryr Ekush Tarikh" in  the show "Baishakhir Sokal-er Gaan".

Following this, at 9:10am, a special programme titled "Music Album" will air, featuring classic black-and-white film songs related to Ekushey February. The programme will showcase tracks from films like "Jibon Theke Neya" ("Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano Ekushe"), "Alor Michil", and "Desher Mati".

At 2:30pm, Boishakhi TV will air the film "Alor Michil", starring Raj Razzak, Babita, and Anwar Hossain. The evening will close with an old drama titled "Bhasha O Bhalobasha" at 10:00pm, featuring a star-studded cast including Eva Majul and Arifin Shuvoo.

Banglavision

Banglavision will air the programme "Amar Mayer Bhasha, Amar Bhalobasha" (My Mother Tongue, My Love) at 5:10pm.

One of the segments, titled "Bhalobashar Matribhasha", will highlight the sacrifices of the martyrs and the events surrounding the Language Movement. Debolina Sur, a renowned Rabindra Sangeet artiste, will perform songs related to the language movement and discuss the historical significance of February 21, 1952. Additionally, there will be a group recitation by Boikuntha Abritti Academy and a poetry recital hosted by Sakila Matin Mridula.

Maasranga Television

On February 21, Maasranga Television will also air a series of special programmes. At 7:30pm, the documentary "Matribhasha", produced by Jobayer Iqbal, will explore the significance of the Bengali language and the sacrifices made for its preservation.

Later, at 10:30pm, the special drama "Bornomalar Michil", written and directed by Simanto Sajal, will be aired, featuring performances by Tariq Anam Khan, Moutushi, and Raunak Hasan.

The celebration of International Mother Language Day extends beyond television programming. Theatre enthusiasts can enjoy a special performance of Swapnadal's acclaimed play "Tringsho Shatabdi", which will be staged as part of a three-day theatre festival in Rajshahi. 

The play will be showcased at the Rajshahi District Shilpakala Academy at 6:30pm today, highlighting the impact of war and the importance of peace, particularly in the context of language and cultural identity.
