Chanchal Chowdhury joins Bratya Basu’s new film ‘Taan’

After working with Mosharraf Karim on two back-to-back films, celebrated Bengali director, playwright and politician Bratya Basu has now chosen Chanchal Chowdhury to lead his upcoming project titled "Taan". The film is scheduled to go on floors after Durga Puja, as reported by Anandabazar Online.

Bratya's previous films, "Dictionary" and "Hubba"—both starring Mosharraf Karim—earned acclaim for their fresh portrayal of human complexity. Although the director previously hinted that Mosharraf would return in his next as well, the baton has been passed to Chanchal, who continues to build momentum in both Bangladesh and India with a string of powerful roles.

"Taan" is based on a story by legendary Bengali writer Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay. The narrative revolves around an elderly man who is suddenly reunited with a long-lost lover, shaking the foundations of his family life. The emotional fallout from her return brings layers of drama, tension, and introspection.

Veteran actor Loknath Dey will play the elderly protagonist, while Seema Biswas—best known for her fearless portrayal in "Bandit Queen"—will portray the former lover. Chanchal Chowdhury has been cast as the son of Loknath Dey's character, while Indian politician Kunal Ghosh is also expected to appear in a supporting role.

Scriptwriting is currently underway, along with casting and look tests. An official announcement with character visuals is expected soon.

Meanwhile, Chanchal Chowdhury is also gearing up for "Tridhara", directed by Amitabh Bhattacharjee. This relationship drama will mark his first on-screen collaboration with celebrated actor Rituparna Sengupta, alongside Kaushik Ganguly. The film will explore the intersecting lives and emotions of three distinct individuals and is expected to begin shooting later this year.
