‘Monday Rated R’: Where comedy dares to go dark

A fresh chapter in Dhaka's comedy scene is unfolding — one where silence is broken with punchlines, and truth is told, unfiltered. "Monday Rated R", a monthly curated stand-up show, will blend humour with honesty to deliver dark, raw, and socially conscious comedy.
"Monday Rated R" offers comedians the freedom to explore themes often left in the shadows — personal trauma, systemic injustice, mental health, shame, identity, and more. Instead of skirting around discomfort, performers lean into it with wit, insight, and unflinching courage.
Stand Up Dhaka is bringing this dark comedy stand-up show to the stage on May 26 at Moar in Dhanmondi, starting at 8:00pm. The entry ticket is priced at Tk 200.
The upcoming edition features Syed Ridwan Hossain Bipro and Rumman Rafi, with more surprise acts expected to take the stage. Audiences can anticipate an evening of unapologetically honest storytelling, where laughter is more than entertainment; it's a tool for reflection and release.
Created with a purpose, "Monday Rated R" is committed to giving local comedians a space to challenge norms, dissect taboos, and provoke thought — all while staying rooted in the Bangladeshi experience.
The show is inspired by the global legacy of dark comedy, where artistes like Anthony Jeselnik, Hannah Gadsby, Bo Burnham, Dave Chappelle, Ricky Gervais, and Michelle Wolf have used humour to confront the uncomfortable and speak the unspeakable.
