Sufjan Stevens dedicates latest album ‘Javelin’ to late partner
Singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens wrote a sincere tribute to his late partner, upon releasing his new album "Javelin".
The often private artiste shared a surprising message about his life through a new Instagram post. He wrote, "The light of my life, my beloved partner and best friend," to dedicate his new album to Evans Richardson IV, his late partner, who passed away in April of this year.
"He was an absolute gem of a person, full of life, love, laughter, curiosity, integrity, and joy. He was one of those rare and beautiful ones you find only once in a lifetime — precious, impeccable, and absolutely exceptional in every way," Stevens further wrote in his post.
Richardson worked as chief of staff at the Studio Museum in Harlem, and he was also the American Alliance of Museums' Accreditation Commission chair.
In his post, Stevens further encouraged his followers to pursue love that is worth seeking and elaborated, "I know relationships can be very difficult sometimes, but it's always worth it to put in the hard work and care for the ones you love, especially the beautiful ones, who are few and far between. If you happen to find that kind of love, hold it close, hold it tight, savor it, tend to it, and give it everything you've got, especially in times of trouble. Be kind, be strong, be patient, be forgiving, be vigorous, be wise, and be yourself."
Stevens concluded his post by quoting the Bible verse Psalm 118:24: "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it."
Back in April Stevens refrained from mentioning anything about the passing away of his partner. His close associate, Nico Muhly, however a post in May regarding a memorial and said, "There are no words to express adequately the depth of our loss and our gratitude for his life."
Since he began his career, the "Mystery of Love" singer has been fiercely protective about his personal life. He would only rarely share little peeks of life. Last year, the singer spoke up about being diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder, Guillian-Barré syndrome. As per Mayo Clinic, the disorder makes the body's immune system attack the nerves.
