An adaptation of Australian author Emily Rodda's popular “Deltora Quest” series, this is the story of Lief, Barda and Jasmine. The three are searching for the seven lost gems of The Belt of Deltora: The Topaz, The Ruby, The Opal, The Lapis Lazuli, The Emerald, The Amethyst, and The Diamond to save the kingdom from the evil Shadow-lord.
At first we see Lief and Barda setting out on the quest. They later run into Jasmine in The Forest of Silence, who happens to join them afterwards. The plot might seem a bit clichéd, but there are enough twists and turns to keep you on your toes. It got me hooked by the end of the first episode. However, this might not satisfy the hardcore action loving fans out there. (It's a children's book series, damn it!)
The pace is nice: not too fast, not too slow. The villains are really interesting, Rodda actually managed to make up a witch who's got monsters for children that are pretty loyal to their mother. Some characters just keep coming back, but that can be forgiven due to the nature of the series. The cliff-hangers have been pulled off nicely. And once you're through a few episodes, this anime won't feel like a serious waste of time. There's also a game available, only in Japan though. (WHY?)
Pros: Good anime, not a waste of time if you've read the book and it will make you wish dragons truly existed.
Cons: Might get you hooked, causing your face to get glued to the screen and you'll feel as if the run-times of the 25 minute long episodes are not enough. Only the first 52 episodes are dubbed in English, the rest 13 are in Japanese.
P.S. Season 3 is a MUST.
