Damurhuda aspirants for Mar 15 polls

Candidates have started door to door campaign to woo voters as election to Damurhuda Upazila Parishad will be held on March 15.
They are also holding election rallies in different unions and making pledges for development of the upazila.
Nine candidates will vie for the posts of chairman, vice-chairman and woman vice chairman on the day.  
The chairman candidates are Azadul Islam Azad (AL), Liakot Ali (BNP), Maulana Azizur Rahman (Jamaat), Fazlur Rahman ([BNP rebel) and Ejazul Haque Meraj (BNP rebel).
Candidates contesting for the vice-chairman post are Shaheedul Islam (AL), Abdul Kader (Jammat), Habibur Rahman (BNP) and Abul Hashem (BNP rebel .
Contenders for woman vice-chairman post are Raushan Akhter Lily (AL) and Salma Jahan (BNP).
As many as 1, 95,000 voters are expected to cast their votes through 77 polling centres. District Election Officer Jahangir Hossain said necessary measures will be taken for holding a free, fair and credible election in the upazila.
According to voters, AL-backed chairman candidate Azad will face a tough challenge from BNP-backed Liakot.
“I shall cast my vote in favour of an honest and educated chairman candidate in the upcoming election,” said Nur Islam of Notipota village.     
Sources in the upazila administration said they are taking all-out preparation to ensure a free and fair voting.
