A new photo book documenting last year's July-August uprising was unveiled at Alliance Française in the capital today.

Titled "Witness to the Uprising", the book features 107 images captured by photojournalist Jibon Ahmed and spans events from July 1, 2024, to February 5, 2025.

Published jointly by University Press Limited and Netra News, the book aims to preserve the visual history of the mass movement that led to the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government.

Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Jibon said there was no single leader behind the uprising -- it was driven by ordinary people on the streets.

The photojournalist also highlighted the important yet often-overlooked role of women in the protests.

UPL's Publisher Mahrukh Mohiuddin said the book would serve as a lasting historical record.

Speaking at the event, activist Khushi Kabir said that the uprising marked a unique shift in the country's political and state structure.

Golam Rahman, father of protester Golam Nafiz who was shot dead on August 4, thanked Jibon for capturing the photo that helped him find his son's body.

He also expressed gratitude to rickshaw puller Nur Mia, who tried to save Nafiz.

Tasneem Khalil, editor-in-chief of Netra News, also spoke at the event.
