Mohakal Nattya Sampraday will premiere “Hahnemann”, a new stage production based on the life and work of Dr Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, later this month.

Written by Apurba Kumar Kundu and directed by Subhasish Datta Tanmoy, the solo play stars Mir Zahid Hassan in the title role. The premiere is scheduled for July 30 at 7 pm at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka, followed by two more performances on July 31 at the same venue.

The play centres on the final eight years of Hahnemann’s life, portraying his move from Germany to France, his life with his second wife, the evolution of homeopathy, and the controversies and legal persecution he faced for advocating a new medical philosophy.

It also explores his struggle to continue practising medicine in a secure environment, his revision of the Materia Medica, personal tragedies, including the loss of a child, and his lifelong dedication to humanitarian service.

Director Subhasish Datta Tanmoy said the production extends beyond a biographical account of a physician.

“This is not merely a biographical play about a doctor. It is a story of humanity and of remaining steadfast in the face of adversity. Mir Zahid Hassan is one of the country’s most accomplished stage actors, and I believe audiences will discover him anew in the role of Hahnemann,” he said.

The production features set and props by Palash Hendry Sen, costumes by Irin Parveen Lopa, music by Hamidur Rahman Pappu, choreography by Syeda Kanij Fatema Lisa, and makeup by Subhasish Datta Tanmoy.
