Human chain in Jashore demands arrest of those who tortured 12-year-old house help
Protesting the brutal torture of 12-year-old Amena Khaten, locals in Jashore formed a human chain today demanding the arrest of those involved.
The human chain was formed in front of Jashore Press Club this noon, reports our Benapole correspondent.
Amena, hailing from Rajapur village in Sadar upazila of Jashore, was tortured frequently over the last one year while she was working at a house in Dhaka.
After Eid-ul-Fitr this year, her grandmother rescued her and took her to Jashore General Hospital. After treatment, she returned home.
Upon receiving the news, the angry locals organised a human chain today where Amena was also present.
Speaking at the programme, Amena recounted daily incidents of torture by her employers -- Badal and his wife Shymoli
"I was beaten up mercilessly over trivial issues. Badal and Shyamoli used to stand on me… they used to tie me up with rope," the child said.
They also burnt her with hot iron -- on her arms, legs and thighs, Amena said.
Amena's grandmother said they are being pressured to not seek justice.
Locals and the victim's grandmother demanded trial of those involved in the torture.
