Five arrested over killing businessman near High Court

Detectives claimed to have arrested five alleged muggers in connection with killing cable operator businessman Hamidul Islam near High Court in Dhaka on Saturday night.
A team of detectives (Ramna Division) arrested them yesterday, during raids at Mugda and Kamrangirchar area, AKM Hafiz Akhter, additional commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told a press briefing at DMP media centre.
The arrestees are: Md Sohel, Jahid Hossain, Sukkur Ali, Md Shakil and Sohel Mia.
Hamidul, also general secretary of Shahbagh Thana unit of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, was stabbed dead near High Court area on Saturday night while he was on his way to his Segunbagicha residence.
A case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station in this regard.
Detectives claimed to have recovered a knife, victim's mobile phone and a wallet from arrestees' possession.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they took position opposite the High Court's Mazar gate on that evening. Around 8:30pm, they intercepted Hamidul and seized his two mobile phones and wallet. They stabbed him as he screamed for help, detective officials claimed.
