4 ‘hundi traders’ held with USD 190,000 in Jashore
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members detained four suspected international hundi traders along with US $ 190,000 from Jashore town today.
The detainees are Mithu Mandal (27) and Shahidul Islam (23) of Jashore's Sharsha upazila while Sohail Rana alias Hazrat (38) and Rakibul Islam Sagar (20) of Sadar upazila in the same district, reports our Benapole correspondent.
Lt Colonel Md Selim Reza, commanding officer of 49-BGB Battalion, said BGB members took position in Hamidpur area of Jashore town this afternoon on information that a large amount of US dollars, smuggled from India will be carried to Dhaka by a bus.
The suspected hundi traders tried to escape after the BGB members stopped the bus in Hamidpur area, said the BGB official, adding that the BGB team chased the four hundi traders and finally detained them.
The BGB members recovered 19 bundles of US dollars, containing 10,000 US dollars each hidden in their waist, he said in a press briefing.
Selim further said the detainees admitted that they were involved in hundi trading and gold smuggling.
The detained hundi traders were handed over to Jashore Kotwali Police Station after a case was filed in this connection, added the commanding officer.
