'Top criminal' Rony on 2-day remand
A court here on Sunday placed Atiqur Rahman Rony, one of the top criminals in the town and locally known as 'Quarter Rony', on a two-day remand in an arms case.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Monira Sultana passed the order after Detective Branch (DB) police produced Rony before the court in the afternoon with a prayer for a ten-day remand, said Court Inspector Anoarul Islam.
Earlier, law enforcers arrested Rony from New Market area in Dhaka on Friday, said Tangail DB police Officer-in-Charge (OC) (South) Shaymal Dutta.
Rony, 30, is also an accused in six criminal cases, including one for murder, the OC added.
Supporters of Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, AL lawmaker of Tangail-3 (Ghatail) constituency, brought out a procession near Tangail court area following a bail hearing of the lawmaker in the court on September 5.
Police dispersed the processionists charging batons and firing teargas shells when they tried to enter the court area.
The law enforcers later raided the nearby Hospital Gate area and recovered a foreign-made pistol and bullets from a shop and arrested two people from there.
Police filed an arms case on the same day with Tangail Model Police Station in this
regard, accusing seven people including Rony.
