Rajshahi district administration restricts selling watermelon by weight
The district administration in Rajshahi imposed a restriction on selling watermelons by weight today as the fruits were being sold for high prices in the city than in previous years.
After getting complaints about the high prices, executive magistrates Avijit Sarker and Koushik Ahmed conducted a drive at Shalbagan market, the biggest watermelon market in Rajshahi and imposed the restriction.
The magistrates said retailers are buying watermelons at Tk 2,000 per maund from the wholesale market, but are selling those at Tk 60 to 70 per kg which is much higher than their procurement price.
They warned that if anyone sells watermelon by weight, the administration will take legal action against them.
