Prof AQM Mahbub appointed BSMRSTU VC

Professor AQM Mahbub of Dhaka University has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) in Gopalganj.

Chancellor of the university President Abdul Hamid appointed Prof Mahbub -- a former teacher of DU's Geography and Environment department -- to the post, according to a notification of the education ministry issued in this regard today.

Completing BSc and MSc degrees from DU, Prof Mahbub did his PhD at Canterbury University, New Zealand. His research interests include Human Geography, Population Dynamics, Migration and Urbanisation, Political Geography and Disaster Management.

Earlier on October 7 last year, Prof Dr M Shahjahan was made acting VC of BSMRSTU in Gopalganj seven days after Khondoker Md Nasiruddin resigned from the post of VC amid student protests on campus demanding his removal from the post.

On September 30, VC Prof Khondoker Md Nasiruddin resigned, a day after an UGC probe found evidence of irregularities and corruption against him.

The students demonstrated on campus, alleging that the then VC Nasiruddin was involved in corruption in recruitment of some teachers and employees.
