Explosion at Feni building; 3 of a family injured
A woman and her two daughters were injured in an explosion inside their flat in Feni in the early hours of today.
The reason behind the explosion could not be known immediately, a correspondent from Feni reports quoting police.
According to police, fire service and locals, the explosion occurred on the fifth floor of the six-storey building on Shaheed Shahidullah Kaisar Road in Feni municipality area around 12:00am.
The explosion damaged the third, fourth and sixth floors of the building, they said.
The injured were rushed to 250-bed General Hospital from where two -- Meherun Nesa (40) and her daughter Hafsa Islam (15) -- were sent to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Locals said the mother and her two daughters are living in the rented flat and all the male members of the family are expatriates.
Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the 250-bed hospital Md Iqbal Hossain Bhuiyan told the correspondent that the two who were sent to Dhaka suffered 60 percent burns.
The younger daughter of Meherun Nesa was released after giving primary treatment, the RMO said.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-charge of Feni Model Police Station Md Alamgir Hossain said the building was badly damaged due to the explosion.
Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) has been informed to find out the reason behind the explosion, the OC said.
Police have been deployed at the building, he added.
