Dead body

A Chinese national has died after falling off the roof of a six-storey villa at a resort in Kuakata of Patuakhali.

The incident took place at Sikder Resort and Villa in Kuakata Tourism Centre yesterday noon, reports our Patuakhali correspondent quoting police.

The deceased, Li Cheng (32), was from Heilongjiang area of Beijing and was a business manager at the Taltoli Thermal Power Plant, jointly owned by Bangladesh and China, in Barguna district.

He has been living at the resort since November last year, said Ali Ahammed, additional superintendent of police (Kalapara Circle).

"Li Cheng rented room 1011 at a six-storey villa on the north side of the resort. He used to travel from Kuakata to Taltoli for official purposes," the official said.

At noon today, he went to room 512 in the same villa where a Bangladeshi co-worker lives. Soon, people heard the noise of something falling down, and found Li Cheng dead on the pavement downstairs, Ali Ahammed said.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it for autopsy to Barguna, the police official added.

Kuakata has been placed under lockdown since March 18 due to the Covid-19 outbreak. It will be investigated why the Chinese national was still living at the resort, said Abu Hasnat Md Shahidul Haque, upazila nirbahi officer of Kalapara upazila.
