Be a good human being to be a good doctor: Bhutanese PM

Visiting Bhutanese Prime Minister Dr Lotay Tshering on Sunday urged the medical students to become a good human being first for turning themselves into a good doctor.

“One has to be a good human being for becoming a good doctor,” he said while addressing a student gathering at Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) from where he received MBBS degree as a foreign student of 28th batch.

The Bhutanese prime minister urged the doctors to treat every patient with the highest attention and sincerity.

“We, the physicians, always receive patients … we are used to spending time with patients, but they may come to us once in a lifetime …. so, we should give our total attention to every single patient,” he said.

The Bhutanese prime minister also urged everyone across the globe to show tolerance to the people with different opinions and belief for maintaining peace in the society.

It was a memorable day for doctors and students of the medical college as they held a special reception to welcome back one of their alumni who became the Prime Minister of a country.

Dr Lotay recalled various incidents of his student life at the medical college.

He talked about his college days when he used to stay along with his classmate and current Bhutanese Foreign Affairs Minister Dr TandiDorji at room No-20 of Baghmara Hostel at the MMCH from 1991 to 1999.

The Bhutanese premier also visited the surgery ward of MMCH where he had been placed as a trainee doctor.

Lotay Tshering enrolled in Mymensingh Medical College in 1991 for pursuing MBBS. On completion of the MBBS degree, he did FCPS in Dhaka.
