Petrol bombs, bomb making materials seized

Police arrested four members of banned Islamist outfit Allah'r Dal with bombs and bomb making materials from Meherpur town on Tuesday night.

The arrestees are Abdul Hamid, 32, son of Tara Mia of Char Mukimpur upazila of Manikganj, Jahidul Islam, 22, son of Abdus Sattar of Radhakantapur, Tipu Parvez, 22, son of Shamim Islam of Nawdapara and Sohel Rana, 22, son of Imarul Islam of Fatehpur area of the town.     

"Informed that a group of militants were holding a secret meeting at Fouzdaripara, detectives raided the area and arrested the four people. However, the rest managed to flee the scene," Superintendent of Police Mustafiur Rahman said at a press briefing at his office yesterday.

The law enforcers also seized three petrol bombs, eight cocktails, some bomb making materials, three machetes and leaflets of the organisation from their possession.

The arrestees are followers of Matin Mehedi, reported chief of Allah'r Dal. Matin, who was awarded life imprisonment in a case, is now languishing in Gaibandha jail, said the SP.

The arrestees were produced before a court that sent them to jail yesterday.
