101 raped, 62 women killed in June: Mahila Parishad

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP) today said there were 308 reports of torture and sexual violence against women in the month of June.

There were 101 rape incidents -- 69 were raped, 25 gang-raped, and 7 were murdered after rape -- according to data collected from reports published in 14 national newspapers.

According to a report of the rights organisation, 62 women were killed in different circumstances in the month alone. Besides, 17 were pushed to the point of suicide.

Seven women suffered torture by husbands and in-laws for dowry over the month. Five of them were killed. There were also 14 incidents of abduction and one instance of trafficking, according to the press release issued by BMP.

The number of reports of torture and sexual violence against women in the month of May were 405, it said.
