A total of 43 containers loaded with imported goods fell into the Bay of Bengal from a cargo vessel near the Hatiya point this morning due to “rough sea”.

Cargo vessel KSL Gladiator carrying the industrial goods with 83 containers was moving toward Pangaon in Keraniganj of Dhaka from Chattogram port, Mohammad Selim, deputy director of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BITWA) in Chattogram, told The Daily Star.

The containers fell from the ship, most likely because the sea was rough in the morning, he said.

The incident took place around 8:30am while the vessel was crossing Hatiya channel of Noakhali, our Chattogram correspondent reports quoting the BIWTA official.

All the containers were seen floating towards Bhashan char, he added.
