Covid-19 vaccination drive: PM instructs to reduce age limit of recipients to 40
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today instructed the authorities concerned for reducing the age limit from 55 to 40 years -- to get registered for Covid-19 vaccination -- aiming to expand and accelerate the drive.
"I've instructed the minister (health) and director general, health directorate in this regard, and asked the DG to learn more about it from the minister," she said.
The prime minister said this while speaking at the weekly cabinet meeting, joining it virtually from her official residence Gono Bhaban. The meeting was held at the conference room of the Cabinet Division of Bangladesh Secretariat.
Sheikh Hasina said she has given the instruction aiming to bring a significant population of the country under the Covid-19 vaccination coverage within February and March.
"There is confusion in rural areas (about the vaccine) … this will go away InshaAllah," she hoped.
Hasina also asked the authorities concerned to ensure the implementation of the instruction of wearing masks and washing hands regularly even after vaccination.
SECOND SHOT WITHIN 8-12 WEEKS OF FIRST ONE
The prime minister said the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine has to be taken within 8-12 weeks of the first one and asked the DCs, UNOs and personnel of different forces to get vaccinated.
VACCINATING CLEANING WORKERS
She also emphasised vaccinating cleaning workers of the country. "I think they should be brought under vaccination [drive] very quickly…all the cleaning workers must be informed."
The prime minister said everyone who will get the vaccine must be provided with a card (like identity card) which will be used for taking the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. "This card can be used as vaccination proof while going abroad," she said.
VACCINATION OF AL ACTIVISTS
Sheikh Hasina, also president of the ruling Awami League (AL), said AL and its associate bodies' leaders and activists have been arranging burial of the deceased due to Covid-19 and treatment of coronavirus patients since its outbreak at her directive.
Mentioning that many party leaders and activists have died of coronavirus, the premier said her party men can register their names to take the vaccine.
