RMCH's Covid-19 unit sees highest number of deaths in a day
Eighteen people died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital's (RMCH) Covid-19 unit in 24 hours till this morning, which is the highest single-day toll at the hospital.
Of the deceased, eight were Covid-19 positive, and the 10 died of symptoms while another was Covid-19 negative, RMCH Director Brig Gen Shamim Yazdani confirmed to The Daily Star.
Of them, six are above 60 years old, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent quoting the RMCH director.
So far, 273 people died with Coronavirus-related disease and 141 of them were Covid-19 positive, he said.
Among the deceased who died in 24 hours, 10 were males and eight female. Six of them were above 60.
Fifty-four patients were admitted to the Covid-19 unit of the hospital in 24 hours. Of them, 33 are from Rajshahi, 10 from Chapainawabganj, six from Naogaon, four from Natore, and one from Pabna.
During 24 hours, 188 samples were tested at RMCH lab through RT-PCR testing and 58 of them came positive while 466 were tested at Rajshahi Medical College lab and 130 of them were Covid-19 positive.
The current positivity rate in Rajshahi is 33.94 percent.
KHULNA
Meanwhile, in Khulna, six died of Covid-19 and with symptoms at Khulna Medical College Hospital and two other hospitals in 24 hours, till 8:00 am today.
Of the total, one died at KMCH, three at Gazi Medical College Hospital, and two at Khulna General Hospital.
Dr Suhash Ranjan Haldar, a resident medical officer of KMCH and spokesperson of the Coronavirus unit, said a 25-year-old woman of Gopalganj died at the hospital in the past 24 hours.
Thirty-two new patients were admitted to the unit, and 40 were discharged from the hospital in the 24 hours, Dr Suhash said adding that in total 188 patients are undergoing treatment at the unit till 8:00 am whereas the bed number is 130.
Mizanur Rahman, the owner of Gazi Medical College, confirmed that three – two from Satkhira and one from Jashore – died at Covid-19 unit in 24 hours till this morning.
Spokesman of Khulna General Hospital said two patients from Bagerhat and Narail died at the Covid-19 unit during the period.
Eighteen people were admitted to the unit in 24 hours, while one left the hospital after recovery.
