Rajshahi to go into 7-day lockdown from Friday evening
The administration in Rajshahi tonight announced a full-fledged lockdown for seven days starting from Friday evening.
Rajshahi's Divisional Commissioner Md Humayun Kabir briefed journalists at the circuit house and said the lockdown will begin from 5pm on Friday and will end on midnight of June 17.
"In the beginning, we noticed sporadic spread [of Covid-19] in different areas. Now, the trend of spread is only going upward. That's why we've decided to enforce an all-out lockdown," Humayun Kabir told journalists.
Health authorities, particularly the officials of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, had been alerting the authorities since middle of May when they noticed a surge in Covid-19 patients in Chapainawabganj.
The authorities delayed on a decision in consideration of mango business.
After Chapainawabganj, the virus has spread to the divisional headquarters of Rajshahi, and other adjoining districts.
Deaths spiked and infection rates rose as well.
At least 12, including seven Covid-19 patients died at RMCH yesterday taking the death toll to 142 since May 24.
