Not feasible to frequently increase number of beds for Covid-19 patients: Health Minister
It is not possible to increase the number of beds frequently in order to tackle the rush of Covid-19 patients, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said today.
"We have increased the number of beds from 2,500 to 7,000 in a short period of time. As a result, we have been able to handle 10 times more patients. But it will not be possible again and again," the minister said while addressing a virtual discussion as chief guest to mark National Nutrition Day.
The minister said the factors which contributed to the second wave of coronavirus transmission must be marked to deal with the crisis.
If the reasons behind the second wave cannot be identified, there will be a third wave, the minister said.
He said, "The second wave has emerged as we have roamed around indiscriminately, did not wear masks, and did not maintain physical distancing. If we do the same again, the third wave will make us suffer."
He also urged everyone to maintain health safety guidelines in his speech.
