First coronavirus case detected in Jamalpur
A 30-year-old man has tested positive for coronavirus in Jamalpur, the first case in the district.
The man, a resident of Melandah upazila in the district, tested positive for the virus on Sunday night, our Jamalpur correspondent reports quoting Abu Sayeed Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, civil surgeon of Jamalpur.
The microbiology department of Mymensingh Medical College confirmed the test results around 8:00pm on Sunday, the civil surgeon said.
Upon receiving the test report, local administration completely locked down Ghosherpara union around 10:00pm, said Tamim Al Yamin, Melandah upazila nirbahi officer (UNO).
The patient, a worker of a plastic factory in Dhaka, returned home on March 26 and has been suffering from coronavirus symptoms since, the UNO said.
Informed, the local health department collected samples from the man and sent them to the microbiology department of MMC, where it tested positive for the virus, he said.
The patient has been shifted to an isolation centre set up at Sheikh Hasina Medical College Hospital in Jamalpur town around 11:00pm, the UNO added.
