Covid-19: death toll crosses 8,000 mark
The total number of deceased due to coronavirus infection in the country has crossed the 8,000 mark with 22 new deaths recorded in 24 hours (till 8am today), according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The total number of deaths is now 8,003 and the death rate stands at 1.51 percent.
At least 436 new infections were recorded in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 5,31,326, added the release.
The current positivity rate is 3.92 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 15 percent.
A total of 11,115 samples were tested across the country in 24 hours (till 8 am today).
At least 338 Covid-19 patients have recovered during this time.
The total number of recoveries now stands at 4,75,899 and the recovery rate at 89.57 percent.
Among the 22 deceased, 17 were men and five women while one was between 11-20 years old, one within 21-30, one between 31-40, six between 51-60 and 13 were above 60 years old, added the release.
