Authorities have designated 16 establishments in Jashore city to quarantine India-returnees arriving through Benapole land port.

The decision was taken last afternoon during an emergency meeting chaired by Tamijul Islam, deputy commissioner of Jashore. It came after the hotels in Benapole were filled up with people coming from India, the DC said.

Reportedly, around 1,000 people arrived through Benapole land port during the last five days.

The hotel owners of Jashore where the returnees will stay, have agreed to charge them half the usual rent, the deputy commissioner said.

All measures will be taken to maintain health guidelines at the designated hotels, he added.

Members of police and Ansar will be deployed at the designated hotels for safety purposes, said Salauddin Sikdar, additional superintendent of Jashore police, adding that the India-returnees will be permitted to go home after acquiring Covid-19 negative certificates after 14 days of quarantine.
