7-day mandatory quarantine for UK returnees: health minister
Incoming passengers from the United Kingdom will have to stay in seven-day institutional quarantine -- in order to prevent transmission of the new strain of coronavirus in the country, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said today.
Those passengers will also have to stay in home-quarantine after being released from institutional quarantine, following Covid-19 test.
The minister said this while inaugurating a mobile laboratory for Covid-19 testing at the Ashkona Hajj camp near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) today.
There will be rapid antigen testing facilities at the newly introduced lab in the quarantine camp which will be used for testing samples of the returnees quarantined there.
Another mobile lab will be brought there soon, the minister informed.
He also said the government is discussing on stopping flights to and from the UK as well to prevent transmission of the new strain of the virus.
"The decision will be announced soon," the minister said.
