Two students go missing in sea

Two students went missing in the Bay of Bengal while a group of nine teenagers were taking baths near the sea beach in Sitakunda upazila yesterday.

They are Imon, 18, a college student, and Raj, 16, a tenth grader. The incident took place at Banshbaria Sea Beach point around 3:00pm.

Meanwhile, three other students were rescued by locals with the help of Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel and sent to hospital, said Wasi Azad, station officer of Sitakunda fire station. The remaining four swam ashore on their own, he added.

Quoting witnesses, the official said the nine school and college students came to Sitakunda from Narayanganj yesterday morning to visit the sea beach.

Till filing of this report at 9:00pm, fire fighters were continuing the search, while coastguards were called in.
