The Sylhet district administration yesterday recovered a tea estate, which is an endowment property, and handed it over to its Shebait or caretaker following a Supreme Court order.

Meer Mahbubur Rahman, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Sylhet Sadar Upazila, handed over Tarapur Tea Estate to Shebait Pankoj Kumar Gupta.

The tea estate had been under the possession of Abdul Hai, son of businessman Ragib Ali.

Pankoj said the administration primarily recovered 323 acres of land of the total 422.96 acres of the estate. On the rest of the land are some structures including Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Medical College Hospital and a few hostels, he said.

The UNO said the administration asked for removal of the structures within six months into the SC order, given on January 19 this year.
